SOPHIE FERENCZI
18 year old Sophie has been running with the squad since the beginning and has achieved outstanding results to National Level in Cross Country, Track, Triathlon, Aquathon and Surf Lifesaving.
​
Sophie was awarded The 2019 News Local Sports Star of the Year for her outstanding achievements across a number of Sports. She enjoys Middle to Long Distance Races the best, Cross Country and 3000m track being her favourites.
Sophie's strength as an athlete is impressive to say the least. She has been at the top of her game throughout her High School years, with an unrivalled collection of State and National medals across several sports.
​
Recent achievements include Bronze in the 3000m at the 2022 NSW Junior Athletics Championships and Silver at the 2021 NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships. At the Australian Surf Titles she earned 2 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals in events including the 2km Beach Run, 2 x 1km Beach Relay.
​
Sophie was also selected for the 2020 NSW Cross Country Merit List (National Team selection) ​​
​
She is also a brand ambassador for Impi Sportswear.
​
A great mentor to the younger runners in the squad, Sophie inspires with her humble persona and positive attitude at every session.
​
LACHLAN STANFIELD
Lachlan began running at the age of 4 at little Athletics and has never stopped. Now 18 he is proving to be an outstanding Athlete over several distances, however he claims 5km races to be his favourite.
​
Lachlan was one of the original members of the Up And Running Squad and his attitude has earned him great respect from every runner in the group. He is a leader and great motivator at every training session, an athlete that all the younger runners aspire to.
​
Lachlan's long term collection of podium finishes and achievements is too expensive list. He has represented on track and in cross country to State and National level year after year. He has also proven to be a highly accomplished road racer with several podium finishes in Open divisions of major running events including the Sydney Harbour 5 and the Sydney Sun Run.
​
A member of the 2020 ANSW Cross Country Merit List, he continues to improv building a profile as one of NSW's top Junior runners. In less than 2 years he has taken his 5km Road PB from 18:59 down to 16:15, and has a 3000m Track PB of 8:52.83.
​
Outside of Athletics Lachlan has also represented NSW in his favourite team sports including AFL, Touch Football and Oz Tag. He is a member of the emerging umpires development squad in AFL.
​
We are expecting big things for Lachlan as he moves toward the longer distances of Open Age racing.
​
LAURA RODERICK
Not only is Laura one of our most respected athletes, she also works with Up And Running as an assistant coach and strength trainer to the younger girls in the squad.
​
Herself a fine young runner Laura has had several podium finishes in both Cross Country and Track racing to State Level.
​
In 2020 Laura took the Bronze Medal on debut at the NSW Cross Country Championships.
​
The 800 and 1500m specialist was the Silver Medal winner at the 2021 NSW All Schools Championships in these distances, and took the Bronze Medal in the 800m and placed 4th at the 2021 NSW Athletics Junior Track Championships.
​
Laura also achieved selection to the NSW Athletics Merit List in both Cross Country and Athletics.
​
In 2021 Laura qualified for the NSW Team in the 800 and 1500m events at the Australian Track and Field Championships.
​
Laura kicked off 2022 with an impressive debut in the Lisa Ondieki U20 3000m Championships in Melbourne finishing 4th and first NSW Athlete to cross the line.
​
This was followed by her World Junior qualifying run in the NSW 5000m Championships, surpassing the required mark of 16:40 by almost 24 seconds with a time of 16:16.01 taking the Gold Medal in the U20 Age Group. On top of this outstanding result she also achieved qualifying times for the World Junior Championships in the 1500 and 3000m. She went on to win the Women's U20 5000m event at the Australian Track and Field Championships securing her spot on the Australian Team for the Junior World Championships in Colombia.

PIPER SIMPSON
14 year old Piper is one of those special runners with natural talent and a big engine. In her first 6 months of serious running with the squad Piper to dominated races on track, road and cross country against much older competition earning herself a dual National Champion Crown over 800 and 1500 metres.
​
Her year by year record is highly impressive.
​
She took the GOLD Medal in the Under 12 division of the St George Cup Cross Country to open the 2018 NSW Championship Series and the GOLD Medal at the NSW Road Championships in the Under 12 division placing 3rd overall.
​
At the 2018 NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships she took the Bronze Medal and qualified to represent NSW at the Australian Cross Country Championships where she finished 4th.
​
On the Track, Piper won the 2018 NSWPSSA Championships 800 metre event in a blistering time of 2:31. This was followed by dual Gold Medals in the 800 (2:25.80) and 1500 (4:57.87) at the Australian PSSA Championships in Melbourne.
​
She has kicked of 2019 with Gold Medals in both the 800 and 1500m events at the NSW Little Athletics Championships, and went on to defend her National Titles in Darwin both in massive PB times.
​
In 2020 she placed 3rd in the NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships earning herself a spot in the NSW Team for the National Championships. This was followed by a convincing Gold Medal in the NSW Long Course Cross Country Championships. At the NSW 3000m Track Championships Piper was the fastest 12 Year old with a blistering time of 10:16.
​
In 2021 at the NSW All Schools Championships she took the Gold medal in the 1500m event with a dominant win from the start and placed third in the 800m event. She took the GOLD Medal at the ANSW Short Course Cross Country Championships.
​
2022 has seen Piper move up to the 3000m event on track where she has dominated all opposition winning the State Junior title and then the U15 division at the Australian Track and Field Championships where she also achieved Silver in the 1500m. She finished the year with the Gold medal at the Australian All Schools Championships in the 1500m.
​
She kicked off her 2023 Track Season with dominant wins in both the 1500 and 3000m events at the NSW Track and Field Championships.
​
She is seriously one to watch!!!
GRACE HENRY
17 Year old Grace Henry is an outstanding athlete in every respect.
​
A very talented swimmer and runner, Grace has successfully moved into the Sport of Triathlon becoming one of the best Junior Females on a National level.
​
In her early days at "Up And Running", Grace won the 2017 Sydney Eastern Region Cross Country Championships and went on to qualify for the NSW All Schools Championships at Eastern Creek. She also took out her Age Group with a victory in the NSW Athletics Road Championships at Homebush, and the GOLD Medal at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships.
In 2019 she placed 4th in the NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships qualifying for the NSW Team at the National Championships in Queensland where she finished in 10th place and 3rd NSW Athlete in the Junior Division.
​
2019 also saw Grace take the SILVER Medal at the NSWCCC Cross Country Championships qualifying for the NSW All Schools Championships.
​
Her triathlon credentials have continued to grow and in 2020 at the NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships she burnt the field taking taking the Gold Medal by almost three minutes. Add to this a second place finish overall in the 2021 Husky Triathlon against a field of strong adult female athletes.
​
The return of NSW All Scholls Triathlon in 2023 saw Grace dominate her opposition again with a massive run off the bike to take the Gold Medal.
​
She is a member of the NSW Triathlon Emerging Talent Squad and is an Ambassador for Impi Sportswear.
​
Grace is certainly one to watch in the future. She loves the friendly support and encouragement of the Up And Running coaches and the fun she has with her friends in the squad.
RUBY FRY
A relative newcomer to the sport of Athletics Ruby has moved quickly through the ranks at Up And Running to quickly become one of our most successful young junior athletes.
​
With an all round sports background the dedicated surf sports athlete has had great success on the beach, the track and cross country courses to National Level.
​
In 2020 Ruby earned herself a spot on the NSW Cross Country Merit list with great results at both the NSW Short and Long Course Championships.
​
2021 has seen her represent NSW at the Australian Track and Field Championships in the U14 3000m event. This was followed only days later with an outstanding 4th place in the 2km Beach Run at the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships in Queensland.
​
She was a member of the NSW Team for the 2022 Australian Track and Field Championships competing in the 3000m and 2000m Steeplechase events. She followed this again with a 5th place finish at the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships in the 2km Beach Run.
​

​
ANNA COLQUHOUN
Somewhat shy and unassuming, 13 Year Old Anna knows how to get the job done and her reputation for great performances is widespread in both Cross Country and Track Championships.
​
In 2018 she sky rocketed to prominence by becoming the IPSHA and CIS Cross Country Champion and represented the CIS Team at the NSW All Schools Championships. Her success was repeated again in 2019 with a Silver Medal at the IPSHA Championships and a Bronze Medal at CIS.
​
On the track she has achieved countless medals several distances from 200 to 1500 metres. She was a member of the 2022 NSW Team for the Australian Track and Field Championships in the 800m event.
​
Anna is also an accomplished Snow Sport Athlete. She has competed at National Level in Snowboard, Alpine and Cross Country Skiing. She placed 10th in her Age Group in Cross Country Skiing at the Australian Championships and was a GOLD Medalist in the Team Relay. Anna also placed third in NSW in Biathlon a combination of Cross Country Skiing and Laser Shooting.
​
On top of all of these great sporting achievements Anna finds the time to develop an impressive profile in the Performing Arts in the areas of Dance, Drama, and Speech. She is one very talented young lady.
PIPER SWEENY
12 year old Piper is a little girl with a heart as big as a tiger. A strong competitor she has incredible determination both in training and racing.
​
Already a highly accomplished State Level swimmer Piper came to running to increase her fitness in the pool, but with the onset of Covid-19 and pools being closed, her focused soon switched to the track.
During this time Piper moved up from the "Development Squad" and into the "Elite Group" where she quickly improved alongside the older athletes.
In her debut Cross Country race at the NSW Short Course Championships Piper ran an incredible race to finish 3rd in a very talented field of runners earning herself a place in the NSW Cross Country Team for the National Championships.
​
On the track she has achieved excellent results in middle distance events achieving a National qualifying time in both the 1500 and 3000m events.
​
In her first ever NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships, Piper finished with an outstanding 4th place earning a spot in the NSW Team for the Australian Championships in Tasmania. This was backed up with a Bronze Medal at the NSW Track and Field Championships in the 3000m event.
She is certainly one to watch in the future.

EVAN ROWBOTHAM
12 year old Evan has had an amazing rise to prominence in middle distance events on track, cross country and on the sand.
​
With an impressive 3000m time of 9:57 and an 800m time of 2:09, Evan has proven to have all distances covered with his notable kick down the home straight.
​
His big Cross Country breakthrough came at the 2021 CIS Championships where he took the Gold Medal ahead of some impressive competition.
​
In 2022 Evan took the GOLD Medal in the 2000m Beach Run at the NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships for the Bronte Surf Club.
​
This was followed by an outstanding season for the Eastern Suburbs Little Athletics Club where he earned Gold and Silver Medals in the 400, 800 and 1500m events at both the Regional and State Level.
​
He qualified for the 400 and 800m at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships representing the NSW Track Team.
​
At the 2023 NSW Track and Field Championships, Evan took the Silver Medal in the 800 and 1500m Events. This was followed by a Silver Medal at the Australian Track and Field Championships.
​
THOMAS ALTHUNDAG
10 year old Thomas is a born leader. One of the most recognised Athletes of the entire Up And Running squad, Thomas is admired for his passion and love of running.
​
He has become the inspiration of our young Development Squad members acting as a mentor with the ability to coach them through their warm up drills and strides.
​
Thomas has had great success in Cross Country both for his Cranbrook School Team and for the Randwick Botany Athletic Club.
​
He took the Gold Medal at the 2021 IPSHA Cross Country Championships and went on to win Silver at the CIS Championships.
​
His love of running has also taken him to the podium of fun runs across the country and is always chasing a race opportunity wherever he travels.
​
He is the Cranbrook Junior School Cross Country Champion for 2023.
​
Thomas is also an outstanding representative Soccer player and leader of Sydney's Elite Soccer Academy.
HUON GROVES
At only 16, this guy can do it all!
​
From National Cross Country representative to National Surf Medallist, and Triathlete, Huon has achieved outstanding results across multiple sports.
​
In 2022 Huon has shown massive improvements in his races across all disciplines.
​
He has moved to the top of GPS Cross Country Rankings and has earned himself a spot on the NSW All Schools Team for the National Cross Country Championships.
​
A highlight of his 2022 season was an incredible 16:11 at the Gold Coast Airport 5km Road Race finishing 18th overall in a field of quality runners from around the country.
​
At the 2022 Australian Cross Cross Country Championships Huon won the Silver Medal with an impressive kick down the home straight.
​
He's certainly one to look out for in the future.
​
LUC JEFFRIES
Now at university, 19 Year old Luc has had an outstanding school boy career in Track and Cross Country competition.
​
The former Cross Country Captain of Sydney Grammar School, Luc is now a head coach of the school Athletic Team passing on his knowledge of racing in the GPS system.
​
The versatile Athlete has an outstanding track record in 400 to 5000m events.
​
In 2021 Luc capped his school cross career with a Silver Medal at the NSW CIS Championships in the Open 8km event.
​
Highly respected within the squad, Luc is an outstanding mentor and support for all younger athletes.
BRADLEY CHAN
In his final year of school 18 year old Bradley Chan has an outstanding list of success in both Cross Country and Track racing at GPS, CIS, State and National Level.
​
The versatile middle distance runner has achieved podium finishes in 400, 800 and 1500m Track events as well as Cross Country throughout his High School years.
​
In 2002 Bradley qualified for the NSW Team for the Australian Cross Country Championships in Adelaide and took the 1500m Bronze Medal in the U20's division at the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships.
​
The powerhouse runner has a bright future as an adult athlete.
EVA GAWEL
Eva is the true example of our squad moto "we make running fun" as that is exactly what she does. She makes elite level running look easy with her relaxed style and ability to smile no matter how hard the race may be.
​
The PLC Student has had great success in both Cross Country and Track racing and was the 2021 NSW CIS Cross Country Champion.
​
The 2021/2022 Summer Track Season saw Eva achieve Gold, Bronze and Silver Medals in the 800, 1500 and 3000m at Regional and State level.
​
She was selected to represent NSW at both the National Little Athletics and Open Junior Championships.
​
In April of 2022 she took the Silver Medal in the 1500m at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Melbourne and back this up with a Bronze Medal in the 1500m at the Australian All Schools Championships.
​
In 2023 she was the NSW 3000, 1500 and 800m Little Athletics Champion and took the Gold Medal in the 1500 at the NSW Junior Track and Field Championships. This was followed with a Bronze Medal in the 3000m and Silver in the 1500m event at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships.
​

ETHAN HOWARD
A relatively new comer to the sport, 14 year old Ethan Howard is going places fast. The keen surfer first took to running to build his fitness for the water, but as now chosen to focus on Athletics and Cross Country as his focus sports.
​
In 2022 Ethan took to Cross Country with great success with a podium finish in the NSW CCC Championships and a spot in the NSW Team for the Australian Championships in Adelaide.
​
His 2023 track season has been impressive with a Sliver Medal and National qualifying time in the 2000m Steeplechase, and 3000m, as well as a Bronze Medal in the 1500m. At the Australian Championships Ethan took the Silver Medal in the 2000m event and Bronze in the 1500m.
​
With a medal tally like this in his first year, Ethan will be one to watch in the future.

LORENZO PAONESSA
In less than a year, 12 year old Lorenzo has gone from a zone level Cross Country runner to a State Champion and National representative.
​
A great success story of the Up And Running program, Lorenzo qualified for the Australian Cross Country Championships after a brilliant podium finish at the NSW All Schools.
​
In the months to follow he took to the track with outstanding results in Middle Distance events at both Little Athletics and NSW Juniors Championships.
​
At the 2023 NSW Junior Track and Field Championships he took the Gold Medal in the 1500m race and followed this with a Silver in the 800m event.
​
He leads form the front and has a monster kick to bring him home.
​
We can't wait to see where this boy goes in the future.
LILY O'REILLY
Lily is one of those natural runners who has a big engine to match her beautiful technique.
​
She came to prominence at the 2022 IGSSA Cross Country Championships finishing in 2nd place moving through to the State Championships and then the National Championships in Adelaide.
​
Since that time she has continued to improve finding herself on the podium at the 2023 NSW Junior Track and Field Championships with a Silver Medal in the 3000m event. This was followed by an impressive 7th place in the 3000m event at the Australian Championships.
​
Lily also earned a "Golden Ticket" to the U20's World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst where she finished 5th place Australian.
​
She closed her 2023 race campaign with a massive win at the Australian Track and Filed Championships in the 3000m U17/U18 event in 9:41.77.
​
The keen swimmer and surfer, Lily also loves to play water polo for St Catherine's School where she is on the Elite Sports Scholarship Program.
HARRY DAVEY
Is one of those young Athletes who just loves his sport. The keen representative Rugby Player has turned his strength from the football field to the sport of Athletics, building a solid profile across several middle distance disciplines as well as Cross Country racing.
The NSW Representative has had great success with podium finishes at 1500 and 3000m distances, however his natural ability to hurdle has seen him rise to prominence in Steeplechase.
In his debut race in the 2000m Steeplechase event at the 2022 NSW All Schools Championships, Harry found himself on the podium and just outside the National qualifying time.
​
This inspired Harry to focus on this event and at the 2023 NSW Junior Track and Field Championships, he placed 5th in the U16s race smashing the 6:50.00 National standard to earn himself a spot on the NSW Team.
JACK WILKINSON
The word "Ironman" was invented for this young all round athlete.
This boy can do it all. From Open Water Swimming, to Rugby and Surf Club Ironman, Jack is an elite competitor across all areas.
​
His recent love of Athletics and Cross Country has seen him compete at the National Cross Country Championships in Adelaide in 2022 as well as the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships in the 1500 and 3000m events.
​
At the NSW Surf Titles Jack took the Gold Medal in the U14's Ironman ahead of some of the best young Surf Athletes in the State.
​
​
NANCY NEWTON
15 year old Nancy is one of those girls who just lives to run. The hard-working SCEGGS Student has taken her running across the World competing in events in Hawaii and New York City.
​
Since joining Up And Running, Nancy has competed in endurance sand racing, Aquathon and Triathlon Events. She has competed in countless Fun Runs where she is often on the podium in her Age Category.
​
In 2022, Nancy represented NSW at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Adelaide and competed in the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships.
​
Nancy is developing into a fine long distance competitor with her eye on a future in Marathon. She was impressive in the Open Women's Event at the NSW 5000m Championships earning herself a National Junior Qualifying time over the distance.
BEATRICE EMANUEL
Our latest little Superstar is 10 Year Old Beatrice Emanuel.
​
Following in the footsteps of her big sister Matilda, Bea is proving to have the goods on both the Track and in Cross Country.
​
In 2023 she stepped up from our Development Squad to join the Junior Elite Group and has continued to improve with every race. She won the CIS Cross Country Championships representing SCEGGS Darlinghurst and placed 7th in her first NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships.
​
On the Track at the 2023 NSW All Schools Championships, Bea won the Bronze Medal in the 1500m (5:24.67) and Silver in the 800m in a PB time of 2:38.07.
​
She's one to look out for in the future for sure!
ELLIOT WEBSTER
Since joining the Up And Running program 10 Year Old Elliot has gone from strength to strength.
​
After a 2nd place at the IPSHA Championships, Elliot went on to take the CIS and NSW All Schools Gold Medal Double. This was followed by the Bronze Medal at The Australian Cross Country Championships in Stromlo ACT.
​
He started his 2023 Track campaign with a Gold Medal in the 1500m and a Silver in the 800m at the CIS Championships.
​
He is an accomplished sportsman across several sports including Rugby and Tennis.
​

SOPHIE HUFTON
A relative new comer to the sport, Sophie has had a rapid rise of success throughout the 2023 Cross Country season.
​
Winning her St Catherine's School Carnival, Sophie earned at spot at the IGGSA Championships where she finished in 5th place .
​
At the 2023 CIS Championships she moved up the ranks to finish with a Bronze Medal and then went one better at the NSW All Schools Championships with a Silver medal performance, earning herself a spot in the NSW All Schools Team for the Australian Titles at Stromlo ACT.
​
SOPHIA ROUT
At just 12 Years of age Sophia has done more than most adults could dream.
​
The National Level swimmer is the second youngest person to climb to Everest Base Camp.
​
Sophia came to Up And Running to work on her strength and fitness for her Historic Climb. It was from here she discovered a love of running and has quickly become one of the newest prospects at Athletics and Cross Country Championships.
​
In 2019 she easily won the Catholic Schools District Championships and then took her status to a new level with a GOLD Medal at the McKillop Championships ahead of her Up And Running team mate Sienna Novak.
​
She kicked off 2020 with a great run at the NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships in Dapto finishing in 6th Place in a huge personal best time. Sophia was selected for the NSW Cross Country Merit List for 2020.
AWD CHAMPIONS
James Tirado - T25 AWD Champion
James Tirado is a name to watch for the future.
​
The all round AWD Endurance Athlete has countless outstanding performances, podium finishes, medals and records in Cross Country, Track and Field and Road Racing.
​
He represented NSW in the 2018 Australian Cross Country Championships in Queensland. He won Gold at the Australian All Schools Track and Field Championships in the 800m event.
​
James has kicked off 2019 with even bigger success with PBs at all of his chosen distances. At the 2019 NSW Junior Track and Field Championships he took Gold in the 800 and 1500m events and Silver in the 400m. This was followed by a Silver Medal in the 1500m and Bronze in the 400 and 800m at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships.
​
In his first representation on Australia at the Oceania Games James won the Bronze Medal in the U18s 400 metre event.
​
In recent times James has tried his hand at sprinting under the guidance of Roger Fabri and has again seen him represent his country over the shorter distances.
​
He is a very inspirational young Athlete.
Aaran Keith - "The Race Runner"
12 Year Old Aaran Keith is an inspiration to whoever he meets.
​
The young para athlete in the Sport of Race Running is already a World Champion braking 3 world track records for his age group and classification.
​
Aaran loves mixing it with the Up And Running Team and is a standout performer at our ES Marks Track Sessions.
​
in 2019 Aaran represented Australia in Copenhagen in the World Race Running Championships taking Gold Medals in the 200 and 400 metre events.
​
He is a familiar face at local Fun Runs and is fast building a profile as a motivational speaker.

2022: NSW All Schools Championships Silver 1500m to qualify for the Australian Championships where she placed a commendable 8th on debut.

2018: Silver Medal at the NSW State Junior Track Championships in the 3000m and 5th place in a very competitive 1500m, smashing both PBs by some margin. 4th at the NSW Cross Country Championships in Nowra qualifying for the NSW Team at the Australian Cross Country Championships.

2019: Silver Medal at the NSW Junior Track and Field Championships in 2000m Steeplechase and placed 7th at the National Track and Field Championships.
​
2020: NSW Cross Country Merit List (National Team selection), and placed 2nd in his age group in the NSW 3000m Championships.
​
2021: Gold Medal in the 2000m Steeplechase, and Bronze in the 1500 and 3000m at the NSW Track and Field Championships, and a fourth place finish at the Australian Track and Field Championships at the 2000m Steeplechase.

2021: NSW All Schools Championships Gold in the 2000m Steeplechase and Silver in both the 1500 and 3000m events.

2022: Australian All Schools Track Championships Gold in the 2000m Steeplechase and Bronze in the 3000m.
2023: Max qualified for a Golden Ticket entry to the U20s World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst. His success continued on the track with NSW Medals in 1500m, 3000m and 3000m Steeplechase
